ALTA 2010 Conference

Our department was well represented at this year's ALTA conference in Philadelphia (October 21-24). Professor Bill Johnston organized and moderated a panel—"Everyday Worlds, Everyday Words: Translating the Quotidian in 20th Century Prose"—for Magdalena Mullek and Urszula Paleczek, two of our students currently working on the Certificate in Literary Translation. Magdalena discussed translating the banal in Pavol Rankov's novel Stalo sa prvého septembra (alebo inokedy), and Urszula in Inga Iwasiow's novel Bambino. A big thank you goes out to Bill for organizing and moderating our panel and to Lizi Geballe for taking pictures and for her moral support!
